- The weekly match-up schedule is created by the golf league scheduler.
- If you are not able to make an early tee time, please captains, work it out ahead of time. With notice, teams can be flexible.
- Each team will play every other team twice.
- There may be a mid-year 9-hole best-ball scramble. (Or a Rainout Makeup, if needed)
- There will be a two-week playoff where the top 4 teams play per their seed: (1 v 4, 2 v 3). The other teams will also play those last two weeks of the season, with the last week being a scramble.
- Assume we are playing every scheduled week even if it is raining, unless you hear from one of the league officers. Please do NOT call the course. (Please see rain rules below for more specifics.)

IV - RULES
A. SPEED PLAY RULES (ready golf)
- On average you should be able to complete 9 holes in about 2 hours - 2 1/2 hours maximum.
- Keep the pace to the group ahead of you. You should never be more than 1-2 shots behind the group in front.
- Be sure to ask your opponent before you pick-up a "gimmie putt". But please, give your opponent a "gimmie" when the ball is near the cup. Or give the "gimmie" when your opponent has already won or lost the hole/match.
- Line up and be ready to take your next shot when the group ahead clears. There is no need to cross the fairway back and forth with your foursome/partner. Don't spend too long addressing your next shot in a pre-shot routine.
- Captains and score card keepers - Please politely remind your group if it appears that you are falling behind. Also, the captains of the first couple groups out should set the pace for the rest of the league behind you.
- Out-of bounds: When you hit a shot out of bounds, you get the distance. Walk to where the ball left the course, drop a new ball and add one to your score
- Don't spend too long looking for a lost ball. Balls hit out of bounds, drop in bounds where ball exited, with a 1 stroke penalty.
- Ready golf is a concept. It means, not always following by the book of who hits first (the guy farthest out for instance) but rather, getting to your ball and hitting when ready. Especially true around the green. Do not take 3-4 practice swings, leave your clubs in the wrong place, look at a putt from 5 different ways before putting, etc.
- Get to your ball, get ready early and hit when it's clear. Tee off when the first person is ready, regardless of who had the lowest score on the last hole.
- Opponent Prerogative: Since this is match play, any relief you desire can be attained with prior agreement from your opponent.
B. First Tee Tardiness
- If a player is late for their tee time, the opposing team has options:
- Wait for their opponent(s) and allow other foursomes to tee off when ready.
- Do not hold up the tee box.
- Tee off at their scheduled time, without the opponent. Each non-contested hole is a forfeit in favor of the non-tardy opponent. The tardy player can catch up and resume play from the current hole.
V. MISCELLANEOUS
- This is a FOR FUN league!!!! So please be nice.
- A public mail list has been created called, "Golf League 2007". Please feel free to use this if you're looking for a sub. Captains - Please double check to make sure I haven't missed anyone.
- No league rule changes shall be made without a majority vote by team captains and officers.
- If by chance a team loses a player during the season they will have to find replacements. It is recommended to have more than 4 players on a team.
- Each team will have the "Right of First Entry" into the league the following year. The Commissioner will notify teams in early March to reserve each team's spot.
- Please do not improve your lie unless the ball is in standing water, ground under repair or similar. Only if your opponent aggress to the lie improvement, may you move your ball.
VI - SCORING
A. Handicapping
- The Deerfield Golf course will be calculating and maintaining our handicaps, using USGA rules.
- 8 points possible each night, (1 point for every player present. 1 point for each match.)
- Also, score cards will be preprinted, with the handicap holes highlighted.
Handicap strokes are “given” based on the toughest (lowest) handicap hole first, in ascending order. A hole with handicap 1, is the hardest and so on. This can be found on the scorecard.
Example:
Player A: Handicap 10, Player B: Handicap 15
Player A gives Player B 5 strokes.

Therefore, the holes with the 5 lowest ratings are used: 1,2,3,8,9
Match Pairings:

Hcap 1 vs 1 |
Hcap 2 vs 2 |
Hcap 3 vs 3 |
Hcap 4 vs 4 |
B. Forfeit
- This rule has changed from the ’06 season.
- This year, the opponent of the forfeiting player, receives the match point.
- If player 1 team A forfeits, player 1 team B gets the point.
C. Water Play
If you hit into the water, take a penalty stroke and drop your next ball on the other side of the water. A tee shot into the water means you will be hitting your 3rd shot.
Example scoring: Tee into the water, 1 stroke. Place ball on other side of water, 2 strokes. Hit the ball, 3 strokes.
However, do not drop on the other side of the water if the water is a lateral hazard. I.E. not in the direction of the green.
D. Stroke Limit
The Stroke Limit Rule is 4 strokes over par. This means:
- On par 3's - stroke limit is 7
- On par 4's - stroke limit is 8
- On par 5's - stroke limit is 9
Write the letters: S/O above the hole when a player strokes out and circle the score of the player that won that hole.
How to interpret the Stroke Limit Rule.
- If you finish the hole with a score less than or equal to the stroke limit, you ARE entitled to your handicap adjustment if applicable.
- If you have not finished the hole and you've hit the stroke limit (4 over par), pick up the ball and you are done with no handicap adjustment allowed. Score that hole on the scorecard at the stroke limit.
- If both players “stroke out” the hole is a tie.
MULLIGANS are not allowed.
E. Rain Out
- We will play as scheduled unless the course is closed for standing water or if there is lightning.
- If the course is wet with standing water in a section of the fairway, sand, etc., you are entitled to a free placement of your ball out of the casual water without improving your lie. Please use your judgment.
- If there is lightning - seek shelter immediately!!!!!!!!!!
- If there is a major downpour it is at your discretion to wait it out or continue.
- One of the league “officers” will be there to arrange with the course if the week needs to be canceled and postponed. Captains - please help us out with keeping people around until the week is officially called.
- At least one group must complete 9 holes for the week to be official. If not, the entire week will be rescheduled, or cancelled.
- If for some reason you are not able to complete all 9 holes the following rules apply.
- You must complete 5 holes for the match to be official. If you do not complete your match, and the entire week was not rescheduled, you will have to schedule a make-up on your own time at Deerfield.
- You will receive net par on any holes not completed.
- You will forfeit any holes not completed unless both agree to quit. If both players quit, the winner is determined based on current score/match.
F. Scorecards
Match Play Rules:
- In match play the game is played by holes.
- The side that holes its ball in the fewer strokes wins the hole.
- In a handicap match the lower net score wins the hole.
- A hole is halved if each side holes out in the same number of net strokes.
- A match is won when one side leads by a number of holes greater than the number remaining to be played.
- If there is a tie, each player is awarded a half-point.
- Turn in scorecards to Deerfield after finishing your round, to receive credit.
Each scorecard must include the following:
- Each players name
- Each team number
- Match winner circled
- Each team captain must sign the scorecard.
Both captains need to sign off on the score of their matches before leaving the course. No points will be awarded to unattested matches.
VII. PRIZES
There are two flag events each week. There is a team prize for the year-end champion.
Year-end team prizes
- 2007 League Champion
- 2nd Place
- 3rd Place
Year-end individual awards
- Lowest Net
- Most Improved Golfer – Change in average from week 2 through the end
- Most Valued Golfer – Person who got the most points for his/her team. (Tie breaker is last scorecard.)
VIII. SCRAMBLE
- Everyone in your foursome hits the drive. You take the best drive and everyone hits the same second shot etc... until the hole is completed.
- You must use at least ONE drive from each player. The par 3's are eligible holes to use a drive.
- You can place your ball within one club length of the ball you select to use. There are some exceptions.
- You must putt from the same exact spot.
- You cannot use the club length placement to improve your lie. This means you can not place your ball closer to the green/hole or out of a hazard (sand, water, long grass, rooftop, etc).
If you only have three players on your team you can take 4 shots. But the 4th shot must be rotated among the three of you. You will be eligible for the League Scramble Grand Prize.
There will be a scoring sheet in the clubhouse to mark your scores. Please stick around if you are in the lead. In the event of a tie there will be a playoff hole. If there is a tie and you leave, you will forfeit your team prize.
MULLIGANS are not allowed.
IX. PLAYOFFS
